When reporting a problem, telling us your phone model, Android version and roughly how many contacts you have makes it far quicker to fix.
How do I move my contacts to a new phone?
- On the old phone, open Portover and tap Back up contacts.
- Tap Send to another phone and pick any method you like — Quick Share, Bluetooth, a cable, email, a cloud drive.
- On the new phone, open the
.vcffile you received. Android's Contacts app imports it directly. You do not need Portover installed on the new phone.
Where is my backup file?
It is kept inside Portover, in the Backup vault. Tap Save to Downloads to also place a copy in Download/Portover/ on your device, where any file manager can see it.
Does Portover upload my contacts anywhere?
No. Portover's own code makes no network requests and there is no server behind it. Try it in airplane mode — everything except starting a subscription works exactly the same. Your backup file only leaves your phone if you send it yourself through the share sheet.
Then why does Play say the app has network access?
Because of Google Play's billing library, which the app includes so it can sell subscriptions through Google Play. That is Google's code, it handles the purchase, and it never sees your contacts or your backup files. Portover itself never opens a connection. This is explained in full on the Privacy Policy page.
Can Portover delete or merge my duplicate contacts?
No, and this is deliberate. Portover never edits your phone. What it does instead is show you which records repeat and why, and produce a clean backup — a new file with the duplicates left out. Import that on the new phone and you start tidy, with the original phone untouched.
Does Portover back up my messages or call history?
No. Portover does not request SMS or call-log permissions and never will.
Will the file work on an iPhone or on a computer?
Yes. Backups are standard vCard (.vcf) files. They open on iPhone, Windows, macOS, Google Contacts, Outlook and essentially any contacts application. Calendar backups are standard iCalendar (.ics) files.
The backup file is very large
Contact photos are the reason. On the backup screen, turn off Include contact photos for a small, fast file.
Nothing happens when I tap "Import into this phone"
That step hands the file to your phone's own Contacts app. If your phone has no app that can open a contacts file, nothing will open. Try Send to another phone instead and pick your Contacts or Files app from the share sheet.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open the Google Play Store app, then Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions, select Portover and cancel. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are handled by Google Play.
I paid but Pro is not showing
Open Portover, go to Settings and tap Restore purchase. Portover reads your subscription state directly from Google Play, so make sure you are signed in to the Play Store with the account you purchased on.
